Chemical Properties:

• Composition: Though Nickel and Chromium are the primary alloying elements, SS 304/304L also contains small amounts of Manganese, Silicon, Phosphorous, and Sulfur. The 'L' in 304L signifies 'Low Carbon,' where the carbon content is reduced to minimize carbide precipitation during welding.
• Corrosion Resistance: The alloy's Chromium content forms a passive chromium oxide layer that provides excellent resistance to various corrosive substances like acids, bases, and salts. The specific resistance depends on the concentration and temperature of the corrosive media.

Physical Properties:

• Density: The density of Stainless Steel 304 /304L is around 8 g/cm³.
• Melting Point: It possesses a melting point of about 1400-1455°C (2552-2651°F).
• Thermal Expansion: Stainless Steel 1.4301 304/304L  has a coefficient of thermal expansion of around 17.2 µm/m/°C at 20-100°C.
• Thermal Conductivity: The thermal conductivity ranges from 16.2 to 17.5 W/m.K at 100°C.

Mechanical Properties:

• Tensile Strength: The tensile strength of Stainless Steel 304 Forged Fittings is around 515 MPa, which can be slightly increased with cold working.
• Yield Strength: The yield strength is approximately 205 MPa and exhibits good toughness across a wide temperature range.
• Elongation: These fittings elongate about 40%, indicating substantial deformability without breaking. 
• Hardness: ANSI B16.11 Stainless Steel 304 falls into the category of moderately hard materials, with Brinell hardness numbers around 123.
